Precision Machining
An Eye for Detail in the LESMD Region
This subsector includes close tolerance finishing as a precision CNC machining process, small and precision parts manufacture and related activities often associated with lathing and milling. Enterprises in the subsector tend to display a degree of lateral supply and networking similar to industry-specific cluster formation; industries served range from aerospace to more traditional manufacturing processes.
LESMD educational institutions have made strides to prepare and train a local workforce to meet the needs of the Precision Machining subsector. Three technical high schools, an expanding community college and two campuses within the University of Maryland system provide a substantial resource. An increasing number of tailored educational/training programs based on input from and coordination with private LESMD industry has created a platform for the development of a local workforce specific to this subsector.
