Growth and Consolidation in the LESMD Region
The 2020 merger of the Peninsula and McCready healthcare systems and the 2026 merger with Atlantic General health system resulted in the formation of the largest LESMD healthcare system – TidalHealth. Representing the second largest industry Wicomico, the most populous of the LESMD counties, the Economic Engine of Healthcare has a tremendous impact on the regional economy.
Tidal Health’s network of locations in all three counties employs thousands of individuals, clearly marking it as an important player in measuring the impact of the healthcare industry in the LESMD Region. In addition, TidalHealth maintains a robust practical and programmatic role in the LESMD workforce development/educational continuum by partnering with the region’s colleges, universities and technical high schools.

SALISBURY UNIVERSITY
Internship and residency agreements are in place with Salisbury University across multiple disciplines including nursing exercise physiology, laboratory science, respiratory therapy, community health, and even marketing & communications.
WOR-WIC COMMUNITY COLLEGE
TidalHealth Peninsula Regional hosts clinical rotations by students of Wor-Wic Community College’s nursing, radiologic technology, physical therapy, phlebotomy, and Certified Nursing Assistant programs.
UMES
In partnership with UMES rotation opportunities are available for Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, and Physician Assistant programs.
Internal Medicine Residency
The TidalHealth Internal Medicine Residency aims to guide and develop our residents into professional, productive, capable, compassionate, critical-thinking leaders of the medical profession that will take exceptional holistic care of the humans within our communities as if they were their loved ones. Our program will encourage growth and development in our residents by helping them develop clinical competency, compassion, respect, effective communication, medical knowledge, critical thinking skills, teamwork, and leadership, and encouraging self-care and improvement.
