History, Tradition and the Chesapeake Combine as LESMD Regional Assets
Set on the shores of Tangier Sound against a backdrop of more than 350 years of history, the Crab & Clam Bake serves to highlight a number of LESMD regional economic development assets. Primary among these is the Chesapeake Bay-a resource supporting the LESMD Economic Engines of aquaculture and commercial fishing, as well as sport fishing and other forms of tourism.
Frommer’s Travel Guides describes the 45 year old event as “an outdoor all-you-can-eat affair featuring crabs, clams, fish, corn on the cob and watermelon”. In addition to creating a revenue stream for funding other regional events in Crisfield, the Crab & Clam Bake serves in election years as a must attend, see-and-be-seen political institution in and of itself in the State of Maryland.
