Wallops Flight Facility actively engages in providing educational opportunities that connect high school and post-secondary students to the new space market on the Lower Eastern Shore, thus inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers by partnering with area schools and universities through career and science fairs, presentations, internship opportunities, classroom visits, and events.
Workforce development, career presentations, opportunity information sessions, webinars, and onsite visits serve as inspiration for students interested in a future career in Aerospace on the Shore.
The Workforce Development Team supported over 2,359 students (not including student flight opportunity participants) from Maryland in FY 2025.
The implementation of Internships and Experiential Learning Opportunities at Wallops included 21 internships and research opportunities for Maryland undergraduate students.
Provided technical support and hands-on, authentic technical training for 7 Maryland community college and university teams, as part of the 2025 RockOn and RockSat national student flight opportunities, hosted and managed by NASA Wallops Flight Facility.
NASA Wallops supports the Aerospace Cluster at Junior Achievement Inspire, a career mentorship and exploration event that brings together approximately 4,500 8th grade students from 10 school districts in Maryland and Virginia.
Overall, onsite visits, requests for school support for science and career fairs, and experiential learning for elementary and middle school students, included over 1,520 Maryland participants.
